ARI Plenary Meeting
29 June 2010ARI held its annual Plenary meeting in Beiteddine, Lebanon on May 31st to discuss overall activities, assess the state of the debate on democracy in the region, analyze new expression and forms of protest, and to define future directions for the network’s research.
Four topics in particular were identified as major domains for future work by the Initiative: the role of the media in the reform process, the engagement and the reform of the judiciary, the question of citizenship and governance of plural societies and various forms of discrimination, and the patterns of negotiation emerging from labor/social activism. ARI will be officially announcing the launch of its new projects in the coming months.
The Arab Reform Initiative is a consortium of fifteen key policy research centers from the Arab world with partners from Europe and the United States, working to mobilize the Arab research capacity to advance knowledge and promote a home grown program for democratic reform.
